Deco Concert
This is a new and very special Concert size instrument with lots of sound and lots of deco character. I started with making the body out of a quilted Honduran Mahogany in which I inlaid a curly koa stripe around its belt-line. I made a matching neck with a matched koa stripe. With this start I embellished the ukulele with appropriate deco appointments. Starting at the peghead which is shaped into a traditional art deco tulip motif (and equipped with 4:1 ratio planetary geared peg-head brand tuners) it is capped in the front with an ebony and koa peghead veneer. The back of the peghead is also veneered but in a curly mahogany. There are simple and subtle wood fret position markers inlaid into the Rosewood fingerboard. The rosette is a simple segmented black ring. The bridge is made of rosewood with maple burl veneered onto its top face. A combination of koa, mahogany and ebony make up the decorations at the bottom of the soundboard, the end graft, the bottom of the back and the edge binding. All in all it’s quite a tasteful and elegant instrument. $1750
