PEGHEDS
Pegheds brand tuners are compact planetary geared tuning machines with a 4:1 turning ratio. They are lightweight, machined out of aluminum with buttons made out of a fiber plastic. They are available in two diameters; 7mm for new building and 8mm for retrofitting into existing instruments that have holes smaller than .332”. The 7mm pegs are intended for pegheads with a maximum thickness of .500” and the 8mm pegs, a maximum thickness of .550”

TO INSTALL
For the 7mm pegs drill with letter “L” bit (.290”).
For the 8mm pegs drill with letter “Q” bit (.332”).
These special lettered drill bits are available thru me or thru a good supply shop.

Chamfer the drilled holes on the front and the rear of the peghead. Ream lightly with a 15 degree violin peg reamer.
Note the different thread directions and use the correct thread on the appropriate side. (Look at my illustration.) Partially wind in the pegs by hand, back out and clean the threads. Repeat ‘cutting’ the threads until the pegs seat completely. Back out, put a tiny dot of glue onto the threads and fully install. The manufacturer recommends using Gorilla brand glue.

You’ll notice that pushing the button down into the tuner has increased the turning effort of the tuner.
The button has to be pulled back a little to make the pegs turn easily. If they are stubborn and seem stuck I use little wooden levers, (see the illustration).
Backing them off just a touch frees up the turning action while pushing down on the button further increases the turning stiffness.
