Cuban Mustache & Honduran

New out of the new workshop (which is now located in beautiful Astoria, Oregon) is a Pohaku Concert 10 Ukulele. It is constructed of a Hawaiian Grown Cuban Mahogany soundboard mated to a Honduran Mahogany back, sides and neck. The peghead is capped with a birds eye maple head plate onto which 4:1 ratio planetary peghead tuners are mounted on. The instrument’s edge binding, bridge and little inlaid mustache at the bottom of the soundboard are all also birds eye maple. The fretboard is rosewood with maple bar style fret markers.

The concert 10 model is designed to have the sound characteristics of a soprano but with a 15” scale length there is a little more room for larger fingers. Like a good soprano it is sparky and percussive and has a strong note attack with less sustain than a full size concert or tenor size instrument would have.

The fretwork is very tidy, the setup is low and the intonation is accurate and plays in tune. Nut width is between 1 3/8” and 1 7/16”. The strings are .016” over the first fret and about .100” over the 12th fret.

As usual, high quality and attention to detail is to be expected of a Pohaku Ukulele. The back is curved on both axis making a bowl like back as all Pohaku Ukuleles are. The instrument is finished in a glossy lacquer rubbed to a super smooth polish. The ukulele is very lightweight at just under 16 ounces.

Overall length is approx 23”. The instrument comes with a hard case. Oregon has no sales tax and the instrument will be shipped in a killer re-usable box via Fed Ex ground for $50 to the United States mainland.
